Two 1 metre long models for Finnish client.

We’ve produced many different satellite models over the years and recently completed two identical 1m long models for a client in Finland. The models have three removable hanging hooks because they’ve been designed to hang above an exhibition stand at an upcoming event. In one of the inset photos you can see how we used clear acrylic angle brackets to support the solar panels which weren’t strong enough to be self-supporting. The models were packed in two flight cases strapped to a pallet and arrived safe and sound in Finland last week.

Detailed models of three historic sites.

Back in 2021 we completed three models of megalithic tombs for a Heritage Centre in Northern Ireland (see Recent projects – May 2021) and they were so pleased with them they came back to us for three more models which we’ve just completed. As you can see from the photos above, they were three very diverse sites; a ruined church, a disused Water Mill and a landmark Cairn but hopefully we’ve captured the spirit and character of each of these three historic sites. All the models had to be interpreted from very limited information, chiefly consisting of images from reference books in conjunction with current site photos.

Detailed model with extending fold-down ramp.

At 1:25 scale this model of an aircraft boarding system was only 450mm long but as you can see from the photos we were able to include plenty of realistic detail including scaled down branding and and even a fold-down ramp. The finished model also came with a clear Perspex cover and a foam lined transportation case.

Mangled model restored to former glory.

If you’ve got a damaged model that looks beyond repair make sure you contact us before you throw it in the skip – we may be able to give it a whole new lease of life. This industrial model had been shipped to events all round Europe since 2015 (when we built it) before it got badly damaged in transit. The client asked if we could repair it and we were happy to oblige. Of course it helped that we’d made the model originally but even if your model was made elsewhere, as long as you’ve kept most of the broken pieces and can supply plenty of photos of how it looked before the damage, we should be able to restore it to its former glory at a significant saving compared with rebuilding it from scratch.

Topographical landscape model.

Featuring the site of a gas-fired power station on the Pembrokeshire coast, this large topographical model was built at 1:1000 scale which is an ideal scale option for a large spread-out site. At this scale 1 millimetre represents 1 metre so a 2Km long site fits onto a 2m long base which is big but still manageable, as long as you have space in your marketing suite. Even though the scale is small it still allows us to show a recognizable level of detail for any important buildings whilst any surrounding context buildings can be shown as massing blocks which helps to keep costs down.

Phase 2 buildings added after first phase sells quickly.

When we originally delivered this model in March last year the phase 1 buildings were all fully detailed but the client (Enterprise Retirement Living) only wanted grey massing blocks for the phase 2 buildings, three new-build apartment blocks, which were still in the design process. Seven months down the line and with the model helping generate strong sales, the client asked us to add detailed versions of the apartment blocks which we completed before Christmas. The main image above shows the three new detailed buildings we’ve just added. The right hand smaller image shows how the model looked back in March with the three grey massing blocks visible in the background.

Keeping clients happy means repeat business.

Completed just before Christmas, this was the third of three models we produced for the same client last year. We first started working with this client back in 2016 and because we delivered a high quality model at the right price and on schedule they’ve come back to us for 2 or 3 models every year since. We know that keeping customers happy means repeat business and the way we do that is by ensuring every aspect of our service is of the highest quality. Fully detailed sales model exported to Ireland.

“The model looks amazing. You and your team should be really proud, certainly exceeding our expectations.” This was the response from the client on receiving the first photos of the finished model. The client was just as pleased when the model actually arrived in their offices in Dublin and very quickly confirmed a new order for a model of one of their other developments which we will start working on next month. It’s fair to say we were really proud with how this model came together, particularly as we had to work in a different way to comply with socially distanced working. This involved a mix of working from home and staggered shifts so that we were able to maintain a 2m distance in the workshop. We are also very used to working with masks so when necessary we were able to have more than one person working round the model at the same time.

Building For Humanity not-for-profit housing scheme.

The clients for this project, Building For Humanity, a not-for-profit housing company were delighted to receive this model which illustrates their first development of a new type of affordable, sustainable housing which will be the basis to fund their homeless charity, Homes For Humanity. When we sent them progress photos of the “almost finished” model their response was: “Wow loving it already – can see the end product looking absolutely fantastic. Thanks for the update as well. Great customer service, something very rare these days.

Large sales model for lakeside housing development.

Our recently completed sales model stole the show at a waterside launch event earlier this month. At 2.6m long x 1.6m wide this very large model was the centrepiece of a 3 day event set up in a temporary marquee on site. The client had also set up a large screen with animated CGI views of the development but by all accounts the potential purchasers were drawn instantly to the model because it gave such a clear and immediate understanding of the houses, gardens and overall layout of the site. Due to its size the model was made in two halves for portability. Phase 2 of the development, shown as a separate grey area on the model, will be added at a later date. The model will eventually be the focal point of a permanent on-site marketing suite.
