New lease of life for retired housing model.

After spending several years on the sidelines in the marketing suite of a large housing development in Bath, this “retired” sales model is back in the limelight after the client asked us to mount it on a wall in the development’s on-site community centre. We made the model back in 2017 as a marketing tool for the first phase of the development but once all the plots were sold the model was put to one side having served its purpose. Normally the model would be scrapped but the client decided to donate it to the community centre as an object of local interest. It wasn’t a big job but we were happy to get involved to give our model a new lease of life rather than end its days in a skip.

Realistically detailed farm landscape for milk producer.

This is the second 1:32 scale model we’ve produced in the last 3 months – you can see the previous project if you click on the Recent Projects tab above and scroll back to October. As you can see from the photos, this scale allows us to show a high level of realistic detail in the landscaping and the structures. It’s also useful because a lot of detailed “off-the-shelf” items such as cows and vehicles can sourced on line. This model is actually a direct physical representation of a CGI model the company had produced for a previous marketing promotion.

Our third warehouse model this year.

We seem to have found a niche for automated warehouse models as this is the third we’ve produced this year. They’re technically challenging projects due to the amount of small detail that needs to be modelled in the racking and conveyor belt systems but probably the most challenging aspect of these models is interpreting the extensive and highly detailed CAD files we have to work from. Fortunately we have a lot of experience producing complex industrial models of all descriptions so it’s become somewhat of a specialized field for us. If you’ve got a requirement for a model of machinery or an industrial installation of some sort, we’d welcome the opportunity to provide a quotation.

Three presentation models for drilling rig manufacturer.

At 1:400 scale these drilling rig models were only just over 200mm wide so were extremely small and fiddly to make. For example the handrails you can see in the close-up photos were less than 3mm tall. Because of the small scale the client said the models could be slightly simplified, which they are, but as you can see from the pics we still managed to show a high level of fine detail. When completed the three models were shipped to the client in Aberdeen, after which they were shipped on to their own clients as gifts.

… with added Scalextric track!

This 3.6m long exhibition model was built in 3 sections that could be bolted together on site. The model was designed to demonstrate three steel framework designs for the client’s car port systems which feature solar panels on the roofs. The client also produces steelwork for field mount solar panels which you can see on the first inset photo above. The model was built at 1:32 scale (the same scale as Scalextric) so that a track could be incorporated to attract visitors to the stand.

Stylized model showing multiple industries.

The brief for this project was to create a physical model of an existing CGI created landscape showing all the various industrial sectors the company worked in. The only information they were able to give us was a set of still-frame images of the landscape so we had to create our own CAD from scratch before we could start constructing the model. The muted greys and greens are an exact copy of the CGI graphic but we feel they work very well for this stylized industrial landscape. As you can see from the photo above, we also incorporated LED lighting. The system allowed 16 zones to be individually controlled from the client’s laptop.

Realistically detailed model at 1:150 scale.

Located on a steeply sloping site (as you can see from the photos) this was a model where the topography was almost as challenging as the building itself. Designed over three levels, interlinked by steps and ramped walkways, the villa was an integral part of the surrounding landscape and the two elements had to be modelled very accurately to fit perfectly together. The client actually asked us to produce two identical models, one to be kept in the UK and the other to be shipped to the architect in Spain.

Detailed sales model for North London residential development

Sometimes a project turns out to be much trickier than expected and this was definitely the case with this illuminated sales model for a North London residential development. Not only was it on a complex sloping site with lots of surrounding context buildings, it also had heavily articulated elevations composed of many different materials including a very specific range of metallic finishes. The client was very concerned that these finishes should be accurately represented and we spent a lot of time working with the architects creating sample swatches to make sure the colours on the model were as authentic as possible. The requirement for general illumination added further technical complexity to the project but in the end it all came together as planned and the client was delighted with the finished result. In fact we had an email from him with the following comments "We have just been to the agents office to see the model for the first time. It’s fantastic! Thank you so much for all your hard work on this project. I’m sure it will help enormously to sell the units off plan...".

Two 1:400 scale models of parcel handling depot

UK Mail ordered two identical site models of their huge new facility at Ryton because they needed an overview model at either end of the site, one in the offices and one in the main warehouse building. Constructing two models at the same time enabled us to offer them a significant saving on the second unit. 1:400 scale is a good option for a site model because it keeps the base size down but still allows us to show a recognisable level of detail. We were even able to show a good representation of the parcel handling conveyors through the cut-away roof (click on the inset pic above to see the detail).

Sales models for two housing developers.

Earlier this month we delivered two housing models to different developers on the same day. We’d actually finished both models a few weeks earlier but neither client had their marketing suite set up so they asked us to store the models until they were ready on site. Both marketing suites were completed in early August and, whilst we deliver projects all over the UK, on this occasion the sites were less than 40 miles apart so it made sense to deliver them on the same day. We produce at least a dozen of these residential sales models every year alongside industrial and display models of all types for a variety of different marketing requirements.

Second model this year for national developer.

Over the last decade we’ve produced several housing models a year for this national house builder and this is the second of three models they’ve ordered this year. They keep coming back to us because they know we always meet deadlines and always produce high quality, accurate models that really help their sales staff do their job. This model is at 1:250 scale which is too small to show a high level of detail but if you click on the images above to enlarge them you’ll see we’re able to show more than enough detail to make the houses, gardens and overall site layout easily understandable. We’re starting the next project for this client later this year.

Keeping clients happy means repeat business.

Completed just before Christmas, this was the third of three models we produced for the same client last year. We first started working with this client back in 2016 and because we delivered a high quality model at the right price and on schedule they’ve come back to us for 2 or 3 models every year since. We know that keeping customers happy means repeat business and the way we do that is by ensuring every aspect of our service is of the highest quality. We’d welcome the opportunity to become a regular, trusted supplier for your business.

Fully detailed sales model exported to Ireland.

“The model looks amazing. You and your team should be really proud, certainly exceeding our expectations.” This was the response from the client on receiving the first photos of the finished model. The client was just as pleased when the model actually arrived in their offices in Dublin and very quickly confirmed a new order for a model of one of their other developments which we will start working on next month. It’s fair to say we were really proud with how this model came together, particularly as we had to work in a different way to comply with socially distanced working. This involved a mix of working from home and staggered shifts so that we were able to maintain a 2m distance in the workshop. We are also very used to working with masks so when necessary we were able to have more than one person working round the model at the same time.

Large sales model for lakeside housing development.

Our recently completed sales model stole the show at a waterside launch event earlier this month. At 2.6m long x 1.6m wide this very large model was the centrepiece of a 3 day event set up in a temporary marquee on site. The client had also set up a large screen with animated CGI views of the development but by all accounts the potential purchasers were drawn instantly to the model because it gave such a clear and immediate understanding of the houses, gardens and overall layout of the site. Due to its size the model was made in two halves for portability. Phase 2 of the development, shown as a separate grey area on the model, will be added at a later date. The model will eventually be the focal point of a permanent on-site marketing suite.
